New Delhi: The government of India has decided to take away Aakash Tablet deal from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Rajasthan and give it to Public Sector Company, as per reports.

Government has decided that IIT Rajasthan has no role to play in the making of upgraded version of Aakash Tablet PC. This is evident from the absence of IIT-Rajasthan from a new committee constituted by the HRD ministry Kapil Sibal.

"There are problems with both the manufacturer (Datawind) and IIT, Rajasthan. But we are disappointed with the way IIT (Rajasthan) handled everything. It was, after all, the main representative of the government in this project," as per reports, ministry official said.

A government official reportedly said, "We have realised that educational institutes are not capable of handling tenders as it involves large sums of money and handling vendors. Public sector undertakings are much better equipped to handle it."

This was a major project for the institute and government’s decision of kicking them out of this would be a big setback for them.
